Microsoft publishes monthly updates to its cloud licensing and services. In November 2026 the headline change is a new set of Azure promotions that lower the cost of moving databases, analytics, and AI workloads to Azure for eligible organizations. This summary covers what changed, who it affects, and what we recommend.
| Promotion | Discount | Who may qualify |
|---|---|---|
| Azure Database Modernization | Up to 30% off eligible Azure database pay-as-you-go usage | Organizations migrating on-premises SQL Server to Azure |
| Fabric for Microsoft 365 customers | Up to 20% off Microsoft Fabric pay-as-you-go capacity | Microsoft 365 customers new to Fabric |
| Fabric for Azure database customers | Up to 20% off Microsoft Fabric pay-as-you-go capacity | Azure database customers with no prior Fabric spend |
| App platform for Foundry customers | Up to 15% off eligible Azure app platform (PaaS) usage | Microsoft Foundry customers |
| Data services for Foundry customers | Up to 15% off eligible Azure data services usage | Microsoft Foundry customers |
What changed
Announced November 2, 2026, these promotions apply to new usage in a specific workload. Once an eligible organization is enrolled during the redemption window, the discount is applied automatically to qualifying usage for the promotion period and shows line by line on billing.
Why it matters
- SQL Server still on-premises? Up to 30% off Azure database usage can make an aging-hardware or end-of-support migration easier to justify.
- Reporting spread across spreadsheets and systems? Fabric discounts lower the cost of trying a unified analytics platform.
- Building AI applications? Foundry customers can reduce the cost of the app and data services those solutions rely on.
Our recommendation
- Confirm eligibility before planning around a discount; Microsoft sets eligibility, terms, and redemption windows.
- Treat the promotion as a bonus, not the reason to migrate: size the workload, estimate full-price costs after the promotion ends, and set budgets and alerts.
- Pair any move with a security and backup review so the new environment is protected from day one.
